Success =)

I am so glad I was able to attend TWO parent/teacher conferences this morning! What an amazing learning experience it was. I was very curious to see how student struggles were addressed. At the beginning of each meeting, Mrs. Preber (my mentor teacher) stated what a pleasure it was to have the student in her class, things that are going well, shared some student work, talked about report card, etc. She also talked about where the student is right now and where she wants them by the end of the year. During the first conference, the students' progress in reading was brought up. The student is at a lower level of reading and the parent is worried.
Mrs. Preber talked about what she will do to ensure he continues to make progress and what needs to happen at home. I feel like the parent left the conference feeling assured her child would catch up =)
During the second conference, the students' behavior problems were an issue. The parent revealed that she was going through a divorce and it was causing some stress to her son.
Mrs. Preber made sure to tell the parent that the student was very bright but sometimes he just doesn't stay focused. Once again, she spoke about what her action plan was at school to fix the behavior problems and what can be done at home.
I am so happy I got to be apart of this today and see the process.

  3. What a great experience to see. It is a great way to watch parent teacher interactions and communication. I wish we all had the chance to sit in on conferences before we have to do our own. There have been lots of times I wish I could be a fly on the wall in the homes of students.
